Competition Format

STANDARD CHESS:

  • Each player has 90 minutes for the first 40 moves. After the first 90 minutes if a winner has not been determined a 30-minute sudden death period will begin. After this sudden death time is up a winner will be declared.
  • Player A. with the Black pieces begins a game by shaking hands with the opponent and pressing his clock button down, thus starting Player B's clock. When Player B, playing with White, moves, they hit the clock button and Player A's time starts running. This goes on throughout the game. Only one side of the clock ticks at a time.
  • Digital Clocks will be provided. There will be a 5 second time delay for each move.
  • If you touch a piece, you must move it.
  • Cell phones are not allowed
  • Moves must be recorded.

RAPIDPLAY CHESS:

  • All the moves must be made in a fixed time of at least 15 minutes but less than 60 minutes for each player.
  • Player A. with the Black pieces begins a game by shaking hands with the opponent and pressing his clock button down, thus starting Player B's clock.
  • Moves do not need to be recorded.

All players are responsible for returning their scorecards within 20 minutes after the completion of a round, which is when the last group on the course has completed their final hole and has had reasonable time to turn in their scorecard. Failure to do so shall result in the assessment of two penalty throws, without a warning, to each player listed on the late scorecard.
