Disciplines

Age 18 and above will be placed into Divisions 1-2 based on seeding completion times.

  • Division 1 – Pro Level of our sport (Males must finish 1:50 mins or under; Females 3:00 mins or under)
  • Division 2 – Competitive Level of our sport (Males must finish 2:30 mins or under; Females 4:00 mins or under)
  • Junior Firefighters/Explorers Division – fire explorer and junior firefighter members, Age 13-17, from an organized youth development program of a fire department. 

 

Age categories may be added if more than 15 competitors enter any listed age category. In the event a posted age group has less than 3 participants, WPFG maintains the right to combine age groups within the same gender.

Competitors from police and fire agencies may combine to form Doubles and/or Teams, regardless of agency size or service WITHIN A COUNTRY. Retired competitors may combine to form Doubles or Teams in any manner they wish with other eligible competitors whether Police or Fire. This includes across country lines or whether any other member of the Doubles or Team is actively employed or retired.

Competition Format

Overall: means the overall fastest. 

All Male, Female or Non-Binary: means competitors on team must be either all males, all females, or all non-binaries. 

Age: means competitors in this age range bracket represented in the group. 

Coed: a mix of male, female, and non-binary. Coed teams must be proportioned as follows (see Section 9.8 for exception rule): 

  1. Two (2) person team: must be of two opposite genders. 
  2. Three (3) person team: two (2) competitors of same gender and one (1) competitor of opposite gender. 
  3. Four (4) person team: two (2) competitors of same gender and two (2) competitors of opposite gender. 
  4. Five (5) person team: three (3) competitors of same gender and two (2) competitors of opposite gender. 

Junior FF/EXP: means a member of a junior firefighter/explorer program between the Age of 13-17. Members Aged 18 and above will compete in Division 1-3 representing their department. 

Hybrid: means competitors representing more than one fire department. 

Fire Department Showdown: means a Fire Department with three (3) or more members from the same department competing in the Individual category to see if their combined times will be the fastest among other Fire Department teams. Division rankings do not apply for this category.

1. Can I register for more than one sport?
Where possible, you are welcome to compete in as many sports as you like. However, please keep in mind some sports may overlap in schedule. We DO NOT recommend registering for sports with overlapping schedules. Register for your primary sports and disciplines, then once the final schedule is released in May, you can register for additional sports as the schedule allows.

2.  Can I combine with other agencies to form a team?
Competitors from police and fire agencies may combine to form Doubles and/or Teams, regardless of agency size or service WITHIN A COUNTRY. Retired competitors may combine to form Doubles or Teams in any manner they wish with other eligible competitors whether Police or Fire. This includes across country lines or whether any other member of the Doubles or Team is actively employed or retired.

This sport is not sanctioned with a national or international entity. It is only governed by the WPFGF.

 

The confirmation letter for Firefighter Challenge will be emailed to you and posted here by June 1, 2025.
